The Act Of Swinging.

Life’s challenges are not supposed to paralyze you; they’re supposed to help you discover who you are. ~ Bernice Johnson Reagon

Today was one of those very good days; me working from home, the kids are off from school and wifey is busy ensuring that we all eat healthy and happy. The other good part of this very good day is that I had the chance to take the kids out to the park for some running, climbing, sliding and of cause, swinging. The different activities not only brought back some teenage memories, it also made me realize I was getting old, heavy and couldn't fit into some of the playground equipment's - more so, it afforded me the opportunity to teach my son a very vital lesson about achieving success.

We got on the swing and I started swirling fast and high; my son turned to me and asked how I was flowing that high without being afraid of falling off. I tried describing how the body movements should go in order to control the swirling, yet he just couldn't get it. Now it was time to be more practical with the explanation - this not only inspired him, it gave him a new insight about achieving success and now he can swing.

To swirl the swing, you first have to move your feet backwards to trigger the push, while holding on strong to the steel chain - as the swing rolls forward, you have to prompt your feet upwards to drive more speed to the swirling. Another important or vital instruction to beginners or those with phobia is - ALWAYS look UP - that is the focus that matters most.

This same principle can be applied to start-ups as well as individuals who plan to get into entrepreneurship position. To swing for the skies, you have to take some steps backwards, remain focused by holding on to the dream [this helps in listening to what people expect to see, what others have done that you can do better and analyzing why others failed in the same quest].
The next step is to prompt forward [bringing the plans alive by using the best of skills and carefully mapped out strategies to ensure the smooth flow. This is where the uniqueness comes alive].
The very important part is to keep your focus. Don't look down to where fear makes you supine but look up to where you can draw strength to aim higher.

Swing on like a child and success would not be far from you.

Start small, Use Unique Strategies and Creatively Expand.

We live in a world where anything is possible. A world where one set of people are thinking of what to do next and another set looking forward to what is going to happen next. Whichever way you want to look at it, we all are always hoping for one thing or the other for tomorrow [the future].

I have seen and heard stories about people who have built empires just from a dream. They had very little or no money; investors didn't see a future in their dreams; they were not the best dressed - but they had a huge passion for their dream. So many writers have attempted to explain strategies for starting up a new business, but the truth is - not all strategies work for every business.

If you have dared to dream of a big idea/concept, then you should be go a bit further to dream of your exclusive promotion/marketing strategy as well as possible expansion plans. When you have a unique business idea, you have to also think of unique ways to sell them to clients and possible investors/partners.

In my own little way, I will attempt to open your eyes to (1) Why it is important to dream dreams - (2) How to bring the dream to life - (3) How to promote and sell the dream - (4) What to do to stay successfully relevant and (5) Why you should expand to other ventures.

WHY IT IS IMPORTANT TO DREAM.

It should not be hard for you to stop sometimes and look into the stains of walls, or ashes of a fire, or clouds, or mud or like places, in which ... you may find really marvelous ideas.
- Leonardo da Vinci

There are so many issues and problems in the world begging for solutions. We live in this world and every second someone is thinking of how they can find solutions to one or more problems. You really dont have to be affected by these issues before you start thinking of how to solve it - as long as there is a need for a solution, then there is a need to start dreaming.

While some dreams that become successful businesses require money, most of them do not. There are a few examples of businesses that have become amazingly big just by creating a concept and using it to fill a gap. The story of Mattel is one that I find outstanding because the then newly-married Ruth and Elliot Handler actually started from their home garage with materials that can be referred to as scrap and they turned it into a magnificent venture.

Although Mattel is known worldwide as a toy maker, they initially produced and sold picture frames. Shortly after opening for business, Handler began making dollhouse furniture with the scraps left over from the picture frames. Ruth and Elliot had little business experience and even less capital, but they saw a gap that needed to be filled in the toy less marketplace, plus a drive to carve out a niche for themselves - they created a unique product that brought the world to their door.
As time went on, the couple created more toys that touched the lives of many children and today we can all read the story of how humble beginnings in the garage has been given pride of place in the New York Stock Exchange. Mattel is not only ranked on the list of Fortune 500 companies, it has recorded over $6 Billion in revenues and reported 4.8 billion in assets.

This is a classic case of seeing what others cant see and using whatever resource you have at your disposal to make an impact. Your dreams (Business ideas) are powerful, but you have to bring them to fore!

Trading Trust for Greed.

One of the issues among most people today is the unsatisfactory desire for worldly pleasures. We want to live flashy, have the best of things, show off wealth, bling-blings, cars, clothes, etc - these many desires have misled so many true minded and focused individuals to trade their integrity for the lust of the flesh.

Elisha (as the Holy Book describes) was a dedicated and respected prophet of the most high God. For anyone to be chosen as His servant is a role that commands huge respect as well. Elisha never lacked - because God always supply all his needs accordingly, therefore his servants were well taken care of and lived happily with their families.

The evil one has tricks that he uses to deprive Gods people from enjoying the blessings from Heaven - he flashes us with things we can hardly resist, things that will bring out the greed in us; things that would make us lie; that would make us do the unimaginable - just to satisfy that greedy urge for materialism.

Mind you, the things that we do to satisfy those greedy satanic urge - we think God does not see? For every deed, there is a reward. Honestly its not easy, but with Gods grace, we can stand strong to resist the greedy urges. I pray that the Almighty God continue to open our eyes to the truth of His word, that our hearts will seek to do the needful at all times. No one is perfect - not even one.

HOW DEEP IS THE LOVE . .

Do you know how God pursues those who run from Him? He pursues them with purpose, and with provision, and with unbending love. The tiny book of Hosea is a mini-pageant of God's pursuing love played on the stage of human life. In it, Gomer leaves her good husband Hosea and goes her own way, taking other lovers and shaming the faithful man she married. But he doesn't write her off or cut her loose. In fact, even when she is with other men, he is concerned for her welfare, and reckoning for her good. When Gomer sets up housekeeping with another man, Hosea seeks him out and gives him wool and flax and bread, saying, "Give her these, she'll need them." So the man does, and takes credit for them himself, receiving the gratitude and affection that should have been Hosea's. God's love is like that, isn't it? He keeps on loving you and keeps on loving me, even when we say "God, I've had enough," and run from Him! We flee as far and as fast as we can, then stop to catch our breath and think we've out-distanced Him. But then there's a quiet word or a gentle touch, and God is near again. We say, "Lord, how did you find me here?" and He replies, "My child, I knew a short-cut." Pursuing love is not deterred by our weak protests. Love always knows a short cut.

Lessons From An Excited Olympic Volunteer.

In my own humble way I have always loved to give back to society my skills and time; so when I had the opportunity of playing an active role in volunteering, i gave it my all. The first task after my volunteering orientation was to be part of a dedicated team who have been assigned the role of recruiting London Ambassadors in Enfield for the Olympic. Ah! the excitement was next to none.

When the program ended, I had this urge that there was more volunteering roles out there to do. Without wasting time I signed up to be a cast at the Olympic [opening and closing] ceremonies. As soon as i passed the auditions, I said to myself - 'The best moments in my life has been the ones without monetary attachments'.
Honestly, the rehearsals were tasking, coupled with the weather, distance to and from practice ground, work and family commitments - all these put together was enough to discourage me from continuing. But each time I turned up, I saw people who were far older than I was in age still giving their very best. people were coming to London from all over the UK [Manchester, Reading, Newcastle, etc]; heard someone came from Belgium. That was the turning point. What did these guys feel that I wasn't feeling, yet they remained committed.
Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they just have the heart.

The routine involved drumming and marshaling, Every move had a sequence, rhythm and style which over 1,000 volunteers had to perform. Timing was very important, focus was intense; but the volunteer love was burning deep in the heart.
When trying to quantify the amount of time, money and energy put into the Olympics, I feel very proud that I did all of that to achieve success for London and entertainment for the over one billion people all over the world that tuned in to watch the opening ceremony. The friends I gained, the skills i built, the exposure to new things and of course the fact that my family and friends watched me on live TV.
As I write this piece, the rehearsals for the closing ceremonies has begun and I will be braving the traffic and weather to be at my very best. Volunteering is fun, its not a choice, its a responsibility.

These words from Harriet Naylor sums up my piece - "Volunteering can be an exciting, growing, enjoyable experience. It is truly gratifying to serve a cause, practice one's ideals, work with people, solve problems, see benefits, and know one had a hand in them".

The Business of Marriage means Understanding.

I read this wonderful piece on a friends FaceBook wall and decided to share same via the blog. It says everything that I would really want to say, the only difference was that this chap experienced it first hand.
Below is an excerpt of the story/letter -

My name is Dayo. I’m a typical Nigerian guy and I cherish my Fridays a lot; I get to hang out with the sickest guys every Friday night and secondly, It’s another escape from my nagging and boring wife. I get confused sometimes on whether she’s my mother or my wife. Don’t get it twisted; I love her pieces. It just gets complicated; like I wish we never got married…marriage has t
urned her into something that doesn’t amuse me. I wish she was still the adventurous, charming, high spirited lady I dated for five years.

A lot of people say its unethical for married guys to be found in a club, but I wish everyone won’t be too quick to judge and understand that people look for fun to run away from their problems; they just want to breathe, like me.

I forgot to say that I work in Guarantee Trust Bank along Lekki, I love my job and my job loves me, maybe its because I’m the senior banking officer. Lol. This particular morning, a lady breezed into my office. My heart raced faster because I had not sighted anything this beautiful in a long while. She wasn’t the typical slender Barbie, in fact, she was a bit chubby but her smile, cuteness and…I was tripped.

“Hi Good morning! Your ATM has swallowed my card!” She laughed, unlike a typical customer that would ram you.

I just tried to form Boss laughter…

“Good morning, You know what? I’d personally make sure they get it out for you, but not today. Can you wait till Monday?” I smiled

“GTB shaaa! OK, can I just drop my number so you could call me up or just text when its ready so I don’t come twice? Please? My name is Nancy” She blinked her eyes in a funny way.

“Sure” I smiled

We exchanged numbers. What a lucky Friday!

So it was 10:00pm and I headed to the club…as usual my friends were chilling for me. My wife had called a couple of times, I just ignored it. She knows I’m never home Friday nights.

“Look at you!” I heard someone say. I raised my head and it was the ATM lady-Nancy.

“Wow, look at you too!” I was surprised to see her but I was happy I didn’t have to wait till Monday to see her again.

“Happy Friday!” She screamed because of the noise, “Wanna dance?”

I didn’t even have the chance to answer, she already pulled me to dance floor. I really suck at dancing but she helped me; she was a great dancer! I had fun! At some point we decided to go to a private area and we talked, ranging from work, business to personal life. I tried to hide my ring as much as possible, I certainly didn’t want this to end now.

“You are a really wonderful lady. You are so interesting…any guy would want to be with you all day” I said.

“I wasn’t always like this but I have learned the hard way that life is just too short to be sad” she sang

Then her phone rang…

“Hey baby! Yeah I’m at the private lounge, I’d like you to meet someone…alright boo” she talked excitedly as usual.

I was in shock until this tall handsome man walks up to her and kisses her.

“You were late. Meet Dayo; I met him this morning, he’s helping with your ATM I told you got swallowed and Dayo this is my B to the O-O,” she laughed “Meet my husband Kolade, we only come here to dance every fortnight Friday; away from work, stress and kids.”

“Wow, a pleasure” I managed to shake him

Then she stood now excitedly holding her husband’s arms.

“Why don’t we invite Dayo for Mimi’s 16th birthday tomorrow?” Her husband said

They have kids too? How long have they been married and they look like a couple just dating!

“Silly me, please come for my second daughter’s 16th tomorrow. It would be an honor” She brought out an I.V from her purse.

I began to feel so ashamed of myself…this was another guy like me, getting it right with one woman.

I collected the I.V and promised to be there.

“See you tomorrow! Have you had something to eat Kolade?” she talked and dragged her husband along.

They left and I kept staring at the thin air like I had seen a ghost. They come just to dance together every fortnight Fridays? Why didn’t I think of that! Temi loves to dance…she also likes long walks, she loves to talk…she loves jazz music, there’s this vivid picture I have of me putting her hand on my chest when we danced at a jazz club on our first year anniversary…I found myself typing all the things I knew Temi loved to do on my Ipad and I realized I had denied her of all…I had made her the old woman she acts.

What the hell was I doing here! I didn’t even tell my friends goodbye, I walked out of the club into my Jaguar. Temi’s call came through and I picked at first ring.

“Temi?” My heart raced

“I know you are not coming home…”

“I am, stay up so we can gist. Been a while” I decided to do everything on that list and to even add many more for the rest of my lifetime with her.

“Are you alright?” She was shocked I suppose

“And I’d like us to go for a birthday party tomorrow. I want you to meet this amazing couple”

“You sound different Dayo”

“Maybe I’m different”

“Don’t say it! don’t say it! when you come we will gist very well” she laughed

She laughed!!! In just that laughter that I hadn’t heard in a while, she sounded like the lady I married six years ago…

Dear reader,

I wrote this natural piece just to remind us that creating memorable moments with our partner matters. Do you know that little things are the sweetest things? Just creating time to gist and laugh with your partner, having a day in the week that’s exclusively for you both-No friends or kids allowed.

Lady, when last have you told your partner he is so darn hot? Guy! When last have you told your lady she is the sweetest thing? When last have you whispered ‘Thank you’? When last have you been quick to say ‘I’m sorry’?

Do you even have a clue on what your partner loves to do?

When you ignore little things, they are the little pieces of rocks that build up to become a mountain you can’t easily break down.

Pay attention to little things, believe that they work and experience new bliss!

Yours Truly

“It is not a lack of love, but a lack of friendship that makes unhappy marriages.”
― Friedrich Nietzsche

If two people know exactly what they like, they fashion out the best way to live together under a common understanding. Marriage just like any business venture involves so many things both human and material - its putting together all of these in the right resource mix that brings it success.
When things don't work the way they ought to, its best for all concerned to sit down, look for where the issue is [without casting blames/nagging or referring back to the past], and source out the right way to ensure the marriage/business doesn't fail in the future.
If you think marriage is tough - ask those who haven't had the chance to marry or those who did not eschew patience to make theirs work.

When Too Good Becomes An Issue

Life has got its ups and downs, sometimes messy; yet most times we are left confused. There is a saying that states: whoever digs into the world of the past [or grave] should be ready to cope with the stench [odor] that it brings.
You see yourself as the nicest person, but someone out there is all out to ensure that they rub past mistakes in your face, just to rob you of the joy that comes with being nice. You focus on your career to ensure all is well with you and yours; yet one busy-body is lurking around the corner to tarnish your reputation.
The job market also has its undoing. They advertise jobs for people with excellent academic results; one rushes to apply, got invited for an interview; only to be told later via email that someone else with same academic records but with work experience has been offered the job.
The jolly good fellow then puts in application to another company, this time added to the CV work placement experience [industrial attachment] in order to boost the chances of getting the job. When the result of the interview came, it stated that they found the CV quite impressive; but the job was given to someone else who had work experience in the same industry and location. This same scenario continued again and again, till the fellow decided that enough was enough - whatever it will take to start building inherent skills and selling them through freelance roles, would be the ultimate strategy to becoming self employed.
Aha! just when you thought you are succeeding, your very own person steps in to discourage you; refreshing your mind on how good you feel, but never good enough for employers. They do everything [unknowingly sometimes] to make you give up on your pursuit. They say you are lazy and should go learn a trade or do menial jobs. Dream killers!
Yes! people will always talk, but what matters most is doing what gives joy and self fulfillment.
Life can also be terrible in relationships - either marriage, courtship or mere boyfriend/girlfriend romance - the last thing either of the party concerned should do is try digging up past issues. Sincerely this things take away inherent joy and happiness.
So many people are not able to deal with their past mistakes; the best they can do is try to forget that it ever happened and move on to ensuring that the now and future shines a better light. Example, the guy has an issue with controlling his alcohol intake, the lady should while trying to caution him in a party, never remind him of how he fell into the gutter after a drinking spree in the past. Same goes for the guys, if a girl honestly tells you of her past sexual experiences at parties - never ever remind her when you guys have an argument; it will forever ruin the trust she has in you.
We all have our masquerade faces tucked away in the trash, should anyone try to recycle them - they rob you of your current beauty. The annoying part is that its the people that we trust so much; the ones that are deep in our lives; the ones that rejoices with our seemingly good; the ones we owe our successes to - yes! the very people we call our own. They bring back dirty memories and leave you asking yourself why you ever thought you could ever be good again.
Now, if you have found yourself in this situation, this is my humble advise - live everyday of your life as if it was the devil himself challenging you, never stop trusting in God for breakthrough and confidence, stay strong, keep doing good and never ever stop smiling - for that smile shows you are a victor!

A Son, A Father and A Mentor.

Its been over 3years since my father passed away to the great beyond, memories of all the times we spent together - good or bad, daddy was still the boss in my life. I am now a father to 3 wonderful kids who adore me even when i am yet to take them to disneyland; and love the good and naughty times we spend together.

As another Fathers' Day observation is celebrated worldwide, I thought it wise to assess the transition from sonhood to fatherhood and mentorhood. How much do we learn as a son, how much have we shared as a father and how much have been impacted as mentors???

Young and innocent all I wanted was to grow up and do the stuffs that big boys did; there had to be a male figure who commanded lots of influence and was willing to direct me. Daddy was the typical busy business man, who loved travelling and hosting friends and family whenever he was in town. I watched my dad talk, brag and drink with his peers; the more drinks they had, the louder the talks. As the days turned into years, i saw myself doing same hangouts, drink, brag; this time my dad has grown old to become my mentor - one of those days, he shared his experiences about alchohol, diabetes, fake friends, secrets and regrets about putting other things before family - and I learnt - now my son will learn too.

During festive seasons and celebrations, as children my siblings and I looked forward to new clothes, shoes, toys, et al. Mum was there to hand them out, she knew our sizes and favorite colors; though we knew my dad paid for them, we were mostly interested in the one who gave the gifts. One of those happy days, my dad asked, 'if you were to give a huge amount of money to either of your parents, who would you give?', in response I said 'Mummy, cos she would know your taste and ensure you have the very best'. That response stunned the old boy. The experience has taught me to not only pay for the gifts, but also ensure that I showed how much I loved to give it to them - and I learnt - so my son will learn too.

I grew up in a big family, where cousins, aunties, uncles, relations, etc visited and stayed over many times. Dad in his early age was the typical rich African man who took pride in helping people, solving problems and attending to family issues. He expected people to show gratitude to his kind gestures and would brag about his givings 'if it wasnt for me, you wouldnt be where you are today' he would say laughing loud. He was very angry with those who didnt acknowledge his goodwill. One of those beautiful evenings, daddy now old shared his regrets with me - 'never let your left hand know what your right hand has given' when God blesses you with the heart to give, do it and never seek glory. I have learnt to give out of Gods love - and my son will learn too.

Before my dad passed on, we spent ample time together sharing ideas, knowledge and informations. He valued a good name to riches and gold; he was ready to go to any length to defend his integrity. I knew his likes and dislikes, his friends, his whereabouts, his plans for us his children. He left without doing some of the things he really really wanted to do. There was so much he wanted to share, he was too busy chasing success and when he had time, we the children too became busy with our families, business, academics, et al. Its a clear lesson, even in our busy schedules, make time for the kids; tell them all they need to know and you'll save them loads. I have learnt - and my son will learn too.

Despite all the errors of fatherhood my dad made, when he became my mentor i knew that God had blessed me with a good man. My dad left us for a year and went on a personal retreat to study the truth about God. He had read the Bible back-to-back twice, by the time he came back home, we knew the old boy has grown wiser. I am in my third year of reading the Bible back-to-back and have found so much joy - and my son will learn too. Dad didnt just teach me how to pray, he prayed for and with me.

My dad corrected my tenses, showed me how to piece words together, inducted me into drinking coffee, gave me newspapers to read, discussed politics with me. I remember vividly at age 9, he would ask me to watch to the evening news and relay to him the main news. The true value of all these occured to me when he departed - its now my turn to put my son in the right.

I have devoted so much time with my wife and kids, cos i know what it means to be a Son, Father and a Mentor when my son becomes old enough to start his own family. Closing my eyes, I can write my dads biography over and over again - my prayer is for my son to know and achieve more than I did. The mistake we make as parents is that we keep it too long to discover who we are and when we actively get involve in our childrens lives. Fathers teach Sons how to grow, Mentors teach older sons from their experience.

To every man who has been blessed with a child; delay may be dangerous, time is now to teach this kids what they ought to know and do. HAPPY FATHERS DAY.

Youths vs Brand Re-positioning.

I try not to over flood the world wide web with issues that have already been mentioned by other bloggers or the press; I tend to see things my way and say them the way it ought to be said or done.

The communication strategies employed by agencies representing youth brands have been heavy on my heart in the last couple of days and I will not sit back without mentioning how negatively PR/Adverts coverage are affecting the young minds.

Brand managers must now heed the clarion call to be more sensitive with their PR and marketing; for most of the images and ideas are interpreted to be encouraging rebellious attitude in youths. These days all you see on bill boards are seductive or rebellious images that do not speak well. Am I sounding like an old wacko, who has lost touch of socio-economic changes; then its time for a lil spanking.

When we were kids, our parents will ensure that we get to bed on time, so as to avoid all the rubbish adverts that fly across the screens; but with the emergence of X-factor and all other late night programs/shows, little can one do to keep teenagers off the TV. Now, advert agencies have targeted this popular TV programs to showcase all the dirty and irrelevant materials from their filthy minds. Dont get me wrong, this has nothing to do with the products, its just the way and manner the adverts are created. no morals anymore to learn from.

Some adverts try to make out that they are art. This is usually where advert isn’t connected with the product in any way that you would ever figure out unless you were a contestant on the never-popular game show 3,2,1. For goodness sake, what has romantic scenes and sexy underwears got to do with perfume adverts, or where is the connection with wearing a bikini and selling snacks. Any sane mind would not go for this products, cos they don't identify with the brands idea of communication.

Day in day out, we hear the news of rape, violent disturbances, gun and knife rivalry, under-age drunkards, drug abuse and lots more; yet we wonder if there is a good future for the media industry.

When did our ads become so awful? Once, I'd actually asked a friend who is a copy writer, what he thinks about an alcohol advert boldly displayed  along the road, apparently welcoming people to the town. His response was 'well, visitors now have a clear sign that they are travelling into a drunk town'. no be me talk am o!

My advice would be for brands to invest in role models and icons, who are conscious of emphasizing positive attitudes through their lifestyle, career and attitude. Brand owners/managers should see themselves as being embedded with the responsibility of using their products/service to instilling the much needed change in the society. More-so, brands could encourage their captive audience with sponsored apprenticeships or career opportunities; for as the saying goes 'an idle mind is the devils workshop'.

If we must change the ills affecting youth delinquency in the larger society, then PR and brand managers must look outwards to change their marketing strategy.

Unclear Issues ...

The nudge to write this piece arises as a result of the happenings around the world in the last couple of months. More-so, the recent earthquake that hit the Pacific Ocean nearby Northeastern Japan at around 2:46pm on March 11 (JST) causing damage with blackouts, fire and tsunami. The death toll as at the time of typing this piece is put at 4277 and is expected to hit 10,000.

As my heart goes out to all those who have lost their loved ones in this disaster, my vex is with the leaders in authority. I still cant fathom why certain decisions are taken in this age and time. Despite the battle to save the lives of people in Japan, I listened with dismay as a top energy official in President Obama's cabinet urges regulators to press ahead with approving construction licenses for new nuclear power plants despite Japan's nuclear crisis.

In my curiosity, I searched for the importance of this 'unclear' Nuclear power, and what I found out made me vex the more: does it mean that top scientists would join ideas together to invent a machine that has its disadvantages almost equal the advantages.

Advantages-

  • Almost 0 emissions (doesn't emit green house gases). It produces electricity without pollution into the atmosphere.
  • They can be sited almost anywhere unlike oil which is mostly imported.
  • The plants almost never experience problems if not from human error, which almost never happens anyway because the plant only needs like 10 people to operate it.
  • A small amount of matter creates a large amount of energy... so there is little fear that we will run out of it
  • A lot of energy from a single power plant
  • Current nuclear waste in the US is over 90% Uranium. If reprocessing were made legal again in the US we would have enough nuclear material to last 100s of years.
  • A truckload of Uranium is equivalent in energy to 10,000+ truckloads of coal. (Assuming the Uranium is fully utilized)
  • An nuclear aircraft carrier can circle the globe continuously for 30 years on its original fuel while a diesel fueled carrier has a range of only about 3000 miles before having to refuel.
  • Modern reactors have 2-10x more efficiency than the old generation reactors currently in use around the US.
  • New reactor types have been designed to make it physically impossible to melt down. As the core gets hotter the reaction gets slower, hence a run-away reaction leading to a melt-down is not possible.
  • Theoretical reactors (traveling wave) are proposed to completely eliminate any long-lived nuclear waste created from the process.
  • Breeder reactors create more usable fuel than they use.
  • Theoretical Thorium reactors have many of the benefits of Uranium reactors while removing much of the risk for proliferation as it is impossible to get weapons-grade nuclear materials from Thorium.

Disadvantages

  • More expensive to build the plant,
  • Proliferation concerns. Breeder reactors yield products that could potentially be stolen and turned into an atomic weapon.
  • Waste products dangerous and need to be carefully stored for long time. The spent fuel is highly radioactive and has to be carefully stored for many years after use. This adds to the costs.
  • Waste is now contained in state of the art sealed containers and does not otherwise harm anyone. Radioactive waste that needs to be disposed from the plant is currently in a diluted form. If the fuel were reprocessed the waste would be much less, and more radioactive. The more radioactive the waste is the less time it takes for it to drop to safe levels of radioactivity.
  • Nuclear power plants can be dangerous to its surroundings and employees. There has been a single case where a plant has gone through a meltdown and as a result left people dead and its surroundings destroyed. This was due to an over-capactiy plant in Soviet Russia that had no core containment. All nuclear power plants in the US and elsewhere have cement domes multiple feet thick to ensure core containment.
  • It would cost a lot to clean in case of spillages
  • it can easily go kaboom if is used in the wrong way

For goodness sake, we were surviving without the nuclear power stations; don't get me wrong, I love innovation but not the type that would endanger the lives of people, as with the case presently in Japan where a small crew of technicians, braving radiation and fire, became the only people remaining at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station — and perhaps Japan’s last chance of preventing a broader nuclear catastrophe- nay to Gas emission...

Another unclear power that has been an issue in the past weeks, is the uprising in dictatorial controlled nations. Is power this intoxicating that rulers refuse to submit to the yearnings of the people. If strategic communication as evidently used to oust the Tunisian and Egyptian junta can be applied successfully, then there is power in the mass media.

Every dictator that refuses to listen to the yearnings of the people should be 'Facebooked', 'Twittered','Blogged' and 'YouTubed' out of the government house. Nations that are preparing for elections, should take advantage of the trend and vote credible leaders who will serve their tenure and handover to others.

While some are crying over the lost of their loved ones, investors and business people are wailing over the drop and rise in stocks/shares. This is another unclear issue ... but i'll reserve my comments for the next part.
God bless the world.

Effective Communication: The Masters Way.

It has been taught and discussed in professional meetings/conferences that organisations do not exist in a vacuum, human and material resources are needed to effectively achieve set goals and objectives. I have over time come to the realization that effective communication plays a vital role in the smooth running of an organisation/project/policy/ ... you name it.

In what ever one sets out to do as a vocation, career or a job; be you the employer or employee; as long as you are in the business of reaching out to people, you need to be able to communicate effectively your products and services in the best way possible.

Communication is not completed until the message is received by the other person. Most of us pay more attention to delivering the message, which is the easy part, and overlook the 'receivability' of the message, the hard part.  Communication is hard work.  Drawing inspiration from the communication style of my master and Saviour Jesus Christ {He used parables, made reference to the past, spoke eloquently, touched lives with his words, had excellent choice of grammar and His words will never pass away}   . I implore serious minded people to harp unto the following rules - and soar into success:

  • The very first step one must take before sending out a message is to organize their thoughts well. There are many slips between the other person's ears and your lips; since the recipient(s) of the message will be interpreting it in their own brain, its necessary to KISS (Keep It Short and Simple) in the best possible way to avoid distortion.
  • Some speakers deliver the whole speech without spelling out even once what they want from their audience.  Then they feel unhappy when they don't get the results they expected from their speech. Oh! yes. You are well read and want to impress with pedantic statements, forgetting that people are not mind readers. if you are to pass a message to target audience, try using
  • Remember the saying, "Nobody cares how much you know, unless they know how much you care."  When they feel you really like them, they make an extra effort to understand what you want. Your message should either be solving a problem or at least the nearest solution to an issue.
  • The rule of Interacting.  There are two ears and one tongue, spend twice more time in listening than in speaking.  The more closely you listen to others, the more effective you would be in communicating your ideas to them according to their frame of reference.  It is by listening close to them, that you will know how they think, what their favorite expressions are and how you can completely attract their attention.
  • When you show how your target audience will directly benefit from your message, you are very close to sinking deep into them. To do this, you must clearly highlight the rewards of your offer, and explain how they will improve their life. For example, instead of explaining that a new product is more efficient, you might emphasize how much time or money the customer will save.
  • You also need to be aware of your non-verbal signal. The spoken word is but a small component of communication, it constitutes of only 7 percent of the message, the other 93% is non-verbal.  If you mean to assure people of the authenticity of your statements, but your face, body and your voice is conveying, "you are just dull,"  which means of communication do you think will get conveyed?  Match your gestures,  body language, voice tone, and other non-verbal behavior with your words.
  • Walk your talk.  Match your actions with your words.  If you say something and then do another, your action will be received as the real message and not your spoken words.
As our faces are different, so are various preferences for both communicating with others and interpreting the communications from others.  Numerous models have been developed which describe how to recognize an individual's preferred style of communicating and what strategy to use in communicating most effectively with them. Whatever style you end up using, never fail to communicate without taking into cognizance the Masters way.

TV Ads: Doing It Better.

Finally the blog bug has caught up with me. I have been reading and commenting on other peoples blog and have deemed it fit to bare my mind on MY own blog.

For the last three(3) days, my 2yr old son has become so obsessed with the GOCOMPARE commercial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rvqzx1bA488&feature=BF&list=QL&index=3 running on television stations around the UK. The obsession is so much that I began to wonder if its the song, or the character in the advert that has caused the attraction, for a child of his age would not go to the internet to find out what the advert was selling.

The point is this: why spend so much money on adverts that doesn't clearly spell out the features of the product or service. Why cant creative agencies come up with clear-cut options rather than promote complexities. Advertising can also serve to communicate an idea to a large number of people in an attempt to convince {not confuse} them to take a certain action.

More worrisome these days is the manner at which cosmetics adverts are done. There is a lot of nudity at display. C'mon guys, if you must sell your products via TV commercials, please please please!!! save the future by taking away the naked bodies from the screen and stop invading public spaces, such as schools, which is a form of child exploitation.

I challenge copy writers to think out of the box and come up with beautifully thought strategies/propaganda techniques that will positively attract attention, engage minds, trigger emotions, and change what people think. All of which can lead to sales. Or votes. Or clicks.

Lastly, guys lets be honest with our vocabs{keep it real}. If the product temporarily deals with the issue, then do not go OVERBOARD by saying it solves the issue. so many people have been misled by these adverts and the Ad agencies should be blamed.
